OUR MISSION

Over three-quarters of teens in America cannot tell the difference between a real news story and an advertisement labeled “sponsored content.” Public trust in the media has fallen to record lows. As journalists we want to combat these trends by fostering media literacy skills among young people to help them become engaged citizens who know how to find legitimate information and check the facts.

Journalists for News Literacy brings professional, local journalists into classrooms to share their experience and teach students best practices for consuming the news. As a non-partisan organization, we encourage students to engage with ideas from across the political spectrum. Our mission is simply to ensure that students have the tools to seek accurate information so their civic lives are are shaped by facts.
